Condensation Prevention

EduFoam sprayed insulation is used extensively in a wide range of marine applications, from narrow boats and house boats through to storage containers on ocean-going ships, to eliminate and prevent condensation problems. Due to the nature of application and the excellent insulation values and water vapour resistivity, EduFoam sprayed insulation can eliminate and prevent condensation with minimal depths even on cold steel.

How Does it Work?

Condensation can occur where air containing moisture vapour reaches its own ‘dew point’ — the temperature at which the air can no longer ‘hold’ all of the water vapour contained within it and some of the vapour must condense into liquid water. The actual ‘dew point’ will depend on numerous factors so there are no set rules for every situation, however, in practice there are factors which can be taken into account as general rules. As an example; where a boat with a steel hull is sat in the water in winter, and the boat has some form of heating internally, it is quite safe to assume that, if left untreated, water vapour will condense on the inside of the steel. In some cases this condensation will not cause any issues in the short term, however, in the majority of cases this is not something which should be left for any length of time.

Where condensation could potentially be a problem, EduFoam insulation is spray applied as a heated liquid directly to any surfaces likely to be affected where it will adhere directly and form a continuous, rigid layer of thermal insulation. As it is applied as a liquid, EduFoam will seek and seal any gaps or voids in the structure to leave no cold spots or thermal bridges which could lead to further problems. Also, as EduFoam insulation has high insulation values and water vapour resistivity, condensation can be eliminated and prevented with minimal depths of insulation — even on steel hulls.

Where Can EduFoam be Used?

EduFoam rigid insulation can be applied in many different situations and to many different surfaces, such as:

  • Steel
  • Fibre glass
  • Timber
  • Narrow Boats
  • House Boats
  • Dutch Barges
  • Cold Stores on Fishing Vessels
  • Yachts

And will outperform virtually any other form of insulation or anti-condensation product on the market.

How Long Will EduFoam Insulation Last For?

When applied according to our technical specification, EduFoam insulation will generally last for the lifetime of the project it is installed in — or at least a minimum of 25 years under normal service conditions. As EduFoam sprayed insulation is a closed-cell, rigid material, it will even stand up to power-washing in situations such as cargo holds or cold stores.

More Information and Prices

For the majority of applications we recommend that you employ suitably trained, experienced and equipped contractors to carry out any spray insulation work. Using trained contractors provides peace of mind that the work is carried out correctly first time. If you would like us to recommend a contractor in your area, please feel free to contact us.

If you are looking to manufacture products or vessels where you think EduFoam could be used, we can provide everything you need to make the application a success, including; advice, information, machinery, training, materials and ongoing service and support.
